The historical monument of Bara Imambara was built by Asaf-ud-Daula, the fourth Nawab of Awadh, for the people during the terrible drought of 1784.
It is an important place of worship for the Muslims who come here every year to celebrate the religious festival of Muharram. It is known for its incredible maze called Bhulbhulaiya (The Labyrinth). The central hall of Bara Imambara is known to be the largest arched hall in the world.
