State-owned Pawan Hans has built India’s first heliport. Inaugurated in north Delhi’s Rohini, it was opened on 28th February, 2017, by Civil Aviation Minister, Ashok Gajapathi Raju.
The nation’s first integrated heliport, built at a cost of Rs 100 crores, has been constructed over an area of 25 acres in North Delhi’s Rohini. The terminal building has a capacity of 150 passengers, four hangars, a parking capacity of 16 helicopters and 9 parking bays. It has an independent Air Traffic Control, fire and a fuelling services area.
The heliport will help reduce congestion at Delhi Airport which handles 40-50 helicopter arrivals and departures daily. It also offers offshore transport and can connect remote and inaccessible islands such as those of the Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep.
Besides Delhi Darshan, flights will soon be made available for Agra, Jaipur, Shimla, and Vaishno Devi too.
